@mhoye hopefully they don't end up with bricked eyeballs like the Second Sight implant users https://spectrum.ieee.org/bionic-eye-obsolete
Their Bionic Eyes Are Now Obsolete and Unsupported

These early adopters found out what happened when a cutting-edge marvel became an obsolete gadget... inside their bodies.

@th one hopes we could learn, but I’ve never even heard of legislation around medical software. At the very absolute least implanted software needs mandated reproducible unless and escrowed source and toolchains.
@mhoye @th Scarification will probably be a much harder obstacle to overcome than software support. Even a fraction of a millimeter of scar tissue at key junctions between the implant and nerve might stop it from working. Worse, what do you do when there's already a layer of scar tissue? Do you cut it out in a new surgery every year?
That said, we don't get anywhere without early proof of feasibility. I'm glad they're doing it & hope they find a path that's not quickly shut out by scarification.
