The way people connect will outlast us — 10, 20, even 200 years into the future.

What we build today will decide whether that future is free and open, or owned by corporations.

Build software. Build communities. Spread awareness.

The foundation starts now — we call it the #socialWeb

@dansup one of my worries is that a lot of federated servers are run by an individual with no plan for if they can no longer run it (besides migrating)

@dansup Respectfully, this is, like, the fourth or fifth tiny extra offshoot project/website the PixelFed team has built. The PixelFed iOS app still has accessibility issues and the web app still requires plenty of polish, especially to its settings page. It feels like this team is completely unfocused, and that makes me wary of using any of its apps in the future.

Posting about building the future of tech and actually building it are not the same thing.

@moshimotsu its a static website I built in January in a few hours, and we’ve been working on the Pixelfed mobile app all year!

I do agree the webUI needs polish, that’s why I’ve been working on a complete rewrite using a modern architecture that leverages some newly available platform features.

I’d like to point out that we also shipped keyword filters, pinned posts and resolved bugs in the mobile app, while also shipping Stories.

Unfocused is harsh, we’re making progress 😉

@dansup That’s good to hear! But truthfully, I’m of the opinion the stability and usability *must* come before features. New features added to an unstable or inaccessible base (even if these are slight) will inherit that instability and inaccessibility. I would hope to see the PixelFed team lock down the pain points that make its current feature set a bit difficult to use, and *then* apply all the niceties after. 🙏🏼

Also, what “modern architecture” are you referring to?
