Now I'm imagining @q sending this chart to the German government requesting the government to tag themselves
@antonia I recently learned in Zeitzeichen (they have some links to sources in the description) that some people have at least serious doubts if the Voynich Manuscript ever was understood, or if it was only created to look like it could be.

Doch was steht darin?

@airtower well someone put some thought into it at some point
@antonia That definitely!
I've lost count of how many times I've seen people point at a data matrix code or some other kind of square 2D barcode that is not QR and confidently refer to it as a "QR code"
@antonia Ohh, so that’s how these funky codes on Barcelona bus stops are called!
@antonia reading about CueCat’s inventor was a wild ride, thank you https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Hutton_Pulitzer

@antonia schau @cycletux, Aztec ist ein QR Code! *duckundweg! 🤪
@antonia NaviLens is technically 3D though
@Nocta_Senestra a qr code is also 3d by that metric
@antonia i used to be able to sight read navilens!! (they just encode a fairly short hex code, the corners are alignment, the center is size, and a decent chunk of the rest is error correction which you can ignore)
@antonia i actually was at a quasi-museum that used AZTEC codes and called them QR codes
@antonia I think I still have a "declawed" CueCat lying around that works as a general-purpose barcode scanner!

@antonia I love this.

(Hat tip to @Edent for sending it my way)

@antonia since when was HCCB commonly understood? i can't find any complete reverse-engineered documentation on it or reimplementations of it, they're all missing the error-correction

@antonia My kids recently refered to an EAN-9 barcode as a QR code, because they simply didn't know the word "barcode".

Also I think I've read somewhere that it's even doubtful that the Voynich Manuscript is even from the middle ages.

@antonia This annoys me more than it should because how is ISO 24778 (Aztec code) not a canonical standard?!

mx @antonia, "Δ-44203 is a QR code".

alt text, because something eats it whenever this one tries to submit it: "the shell of Δ-44203 is marked with the carbo symbol, the text "delta 44203" and a barcode encoding the number 44203."

@antonia a DataMark also fits in the top left quadrant. even if you are as pure as can be you must still accept things that are not QR codes
