It is 1982. I am six years old. Tron bombs at the box office.
It is 2010. I am 34 years old. Tron bombs at the box office.
It is 2025. I am 49 years old. Tron bombs at the box office.
@RonsCompVids ... it is no longer tronin' time

@RonsCompVids

Yep. Wait for the third Blade Runner.

I liked the second Blade Runner more than the first, by the way.

And never really liked Tron. Are the sequels any good?

@RonsCompVids Companies would rather have a repeat of a bomb that they already made than risk making something new. IIRC, no Blade Runner movie has ever done well at the box office either
@phi1997 @RonsCompVids I went to the see the first Blade Runner in the theater on opening day. I recall not being impressed. How many edits did it take to get it right?
@maccruiskeen @phi1997 @RonsCompVids while personally I think even that is still great, the theatrical version was indeed butchered against Ridley Scott's wishes with key scenes removed.

@maccruiskeen @phi1997 @RonsCompVids From what I recall it's pretty-much one updated edit of the original w/o the narration the studio requested plus a few scenes + a new restoration, AKA the "Final Cut".

The infamous work print that was also released with the Final Cut (in the 5-disc edition) was always what was referenced as "what could have been", but that was never intended to be Ridley's final cut.

@RonsCompVids
I had a random urge to go to a movie theater yesterday, so I checked what's showing. Other than two movies from like 20 years ago that are being re-screened, and one animated film about animals, nothing looked at all worthwhile.

It's not just me, is it?

@RonsCompVids It is 1982. Tron makes $50 million on a budget of $17 million.
It is 2010. Tron makes $409 million on a budget of $170 million.
It is 2025. Tron makes $69 million on a budget of $180 million. It has been out a week.
@RonsCompVids Tron 1 didn't bomb. It performed okay.
@RonsCompVids I see a pattern and a common denominator. Why are you causing Tron to flop at the cinema?
@RonsCompVids Reminds me of "Jaws 19" from Back to the Future. :P

@RonsCompVids Did the original Tron really bomb in the box office?

People kept talking about how great the original Tron movie was.

@RonsCompVids ‘76? Because I recognize these turn of events:)

END OF LINE

@RonsCompVids the solution is obviously direct to DVD tron sequel
@RonsCompVids 2010's was a success though.
@RonsCompVids More concerning is the fact that the rate at which Tron movies are made is doubling with each movie. If this trend continues, then there will be 22 new Tron movies in 2039 alone and by 2040 there will be a new Tron movie every 0.23 seconds.

@RonsCompVids Hm. The time between Trons seems to be roughly halving, so:

It is roughly 2032. You will be 56. Tron will bomb at the box office.
It is roughly 2036. You will be 60. Tron will bomb at the box office.
By the early 2040s, a new Tron will be bombing at the box office before the previous Tron has even finished bombing.

@RonsCompVids just one more Tron bro just one more
@RonsCompVids The first one became a cult classic and the second did well on cable.

@RonsCompVids

I mean, I've seen this graphic a few times now, and I'm really feeling the vibe, but hey, my complaints are not about the fucking 'trons'

@sparseMatrix considering that I just created this picture today, it makes me happy that people are seemingly sharing it around
@RonsCompVids
"But maybe *this* time they'll get it right...?"
