Do you really not know the difference?
Do you really want it explained?
Or are you just making a "point"?

Most of the time when people post things like this, they post it as some kind of "gotcha", as if they can somehow prove that Israel is evil, as in "I caught you sneaky Jews!"
So, here's the difference, and it's very simple.
The Netherlands has roughly 11,500 prisoners. They are criminals who have been caught, convinced and put in jail.
They are not hostages. The Dutch government is not holding them for ransom or making demands for their release.
When there is a military conflict, there are rules about prisoners of war and the process differs slightly, but it's roughly the same- someone has been caught and they are put in prison.
Israel has caught Hamas fighters and placed them in prison. It is not demanding anything for their release. They are kept in accordance with international standards of care for prisoners of war.
The hostages were *hostages*, kept for ransom, and were tortured, raped, starved to death, made to entertain their captors.
