A merchant captain told me a story about a moment early in his career when he made a bad approach coming into dock. He overshot and, despite engines full astern, bumped hard into the pier. After the ship was secured, a note came down from the harbormaster. It had one word on it, "Good."
Perplexed but relieved, he proceeded to start offloading and go about his other work. Two hours later, he got another note from the harbormaster. This one said, "Add to previous message: God."
Heh. I shouldn't let you give me credit for it. I read it in "Reader's Digest," about 50+ years ago.
@Imwintersmom Fun fact: Robert McNamara's (a guy who was famous in the cold war as being a leading technocrat/apparatchik as well as having a hand in the Vietnam war) middle name was Strange.
I recommend watching the docco he made called "The Fog of War." He almost atones.
