For what
40 or so trips to the compost and mulching facilities (it would be 15 if I had the longer bed but I also like being able to park so it’s a trade off), about 1500 miles a year towing 8500lbs, usually at least 1 major house project (rebuilding deck this year, garden planters last year), and being the backup family vehicle if my schedule doesn’t match up with the wife and kids needs.

It’d be cheaper (and easier) to have the mulch/compost delivered or to haul it with a trailer and a more reasonably sized vehicle, you probably don’t actually need that boat/camper/whatever you’re hauling 1500 miles, you could rent a flatbed for your 1 major house project a year for a fraction of the maintenance cost of your pickup, and a pickup truck is a pretty shit choice for a family vehicle.

You don’t need a truck that you can’t see over the hood of.
