Pretty much every translation of Sun Tzu is awful - I presume you took some koine in theology school and wince at some of these godawful Bible translations, same thing for poor old ST.

“Art of War” the phrase is terrible. 兵法 Bing-Fa means military strategy.

Thomas Cleary is a fine starting point, I also recommend Roger T Ames for Sun Tzu in context
