it is the middle of the night and you hear a brief but loud unsettling noise with an unclear explanation coming from elsewhere in your residence
@aeva i feel that I am safe from this because all strange noises can ultimately be explained by „probably the cat did something, no need to check on it until morning“. In this way, I become mentally unshakeable
@halcy your cats sound somewhat heavier than normal
@aeva well, she might have thrown an empty plastic bottle on the floor or five, these are always surprisingly loud
@halcy @aeva yeah the reason I'm awake and reading this is my cat threw up at 03:45
@aeva @nickzoic it can wait until the morning!
@halcy @aeva nah then a child will stand in it and walk all over the house before coming to tell me their foot feels sticky.
@aeva "that's either nothing, or I'm about to be murdered in my sleep, either way the problem solves itself..."
*rolls over and goes back to sleep*
@aeva eh, whatever lets me reduce the rent is good
@aeva it's me making tea after a nightmare, thanks for checking, you can go back to sleep now.
@aeva It's my cat's. It's always my cats.
@MissAemilia @aeva that is why we have pets. So the noises in the night are accounted for and don't bother us anymore.

@aeva I have a cat. So it must have been the cat.

When we lived without a cat, noises in the night became much more concerning.

@aeva the cat did this to me last night. Managed to knock over a package I thought was secure enough... made a loud noise. Thankfully he didn't get hurt!
@aeva I like how everyone is just like, “it’s my cat. I’m pretty sure it’s my cat.”
