This is a huge part of why every guide out there tells you to leave your phone at home when going to a protest, or at a minimum turn it off before you get there and only turn it on when you are at least a few blocks away. Also, many devices with wifi broadcast a list of saved networks whenever looking for a network to join, or did at one point anyway. Useful for people to know who might otherwise be using xfinitywifi or similar.
