@mttaggart what exactly do we do about it once we detect them though

@aburka I'm not going to pretend to be an expert in this realm, but I would imagine that the order of priorities would be to:

  • Cease all unencrypted communications
  • Inform all parties with whom you were communicating during the action
  • Back up your data, destroy the phone and get a new phone/phone number? This one is more speculative and I think depends largely on your threat model concerning local, state, and federal law enforcement.
  • I'm very happy to hear additions/corrections to this list.

@mttaggart @aburka honestly, one shouldnt even bring their phone to demonstrations in the first place. lots of protest safety guides just recommend you dont bring a device to a demonstration. but if you absolutely must do it should be a throwaway device you dont care about and has absolutely nothing personal or anything related to the demonstration (resources pertaining to it, chats, pictures/videos, etc) should it get seized if you get arrested or should it connect to the mobile network and be intercepted in someway like this.
@june @aburka I've read those guides but I think we have to recognize that this is not an actionable plan for all who attend.
