While waiting to go through the security checkpoint into the pride festival today, I mentioned "Previous years didn't have all this fencing and security checkpoints, this is weird." One woman said, "I feel safer with this stuff here because the barriers and searches keep runaway vehicles and weapons out." Me: "Yeah, but doesn't that just move the whole problem to...well, right where we're standing now?" Woman: "Huh, yeah, OK, this is stupid."
