Giving a Nobel Peace Prize to Trump would be more obviously humiliating than handing it over to Kissinger or Obama.. so they just gave it to someone who might help Trump-y (Kissinger-y Obama-y) war-for-oil policies along...

Sometimes the Nobel literature prize is interesting though... The Peace prize is too Orwellian or just plain wacky or something...

2025 Nobel Peace Prize for Anti-Maduro Leader María Corina Machado “Opposite of Peace”: Greg Grandin

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to María Corina Machado, a leading Venezuelan opposition figure. Machado was set to run for president last year, but she was disqualified by the government of President Nicolás Maduro, with fellow opposition leader Edmundo González standing in for her. Venezuela’s National Electoral Council ultimately declared Maduro the winner of the contested election, and he was sworn in for his third term in January. Machado has voiced support for U.S. sanctions against Venezuela and other efforts to topple the government; she aims to privatize the country’s state oil industry and has praised right-wing Latin American leaders, including Argentina’s Javier Milei and El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele. Friday’s Nobel announcement comes as U.S. President Donald Trump has openly campaigned for the award. “It’s a perplexing choice,” says Greg Grandin, a historian of Latin America. “They’ve given it to somebody who’s completely aligned with the most militarist and darkest face of U.S. imperialism.”

> ... they didn’t give it to Donald Trump, but they seem to have given it to the next best thing in terms of — at least as long as Marco Rubio is concerned, if he needs justification to escalate military operations against Venezuela. It really seems to be a disastrous choice and a smear on the — I mean, your next guest is Cory Doctorow. It’s really the #enshittification of the Nobel Peace Prize. I mean, they gave it to Kissinger in the 1970s, but at least he — they waited 'til he negotiated an end to the Vietnam War.

> ... there are plenty of feminist activists that oppose Maduro in Venezuela that would have legitimated the peace prize, that would have legitimated the opposition. There’s Isabel Mejias, who’s a feminist. She’s the head of Araña Feminista, the Feminist Spider. There’s Ana Rosa Torres, who considers herself a socialist, and she opposes the opposition and U.S. policy. That would have — that would have made sense, if the committee felt that, you know, it was time for Maduro to go...

@bsmall2 Never forget Maria Corina Machado asked Israel and USA to intervene, a nice way to say organize a coup or invade, her own country and is big supporter of Zionism. If there's a Nobel Prize that is discredited is the Peace one

@ghostdancer Right On! I never heard of her till this interview with Greg Grandin but she reminds me of Milo Minderbinder in _Catch 22_ bombing his own military base for money, convincing his peers it's ok to bomb themselves because the all have stakes in the syndicate...

That sanctions kill like wars with bombs and guns should get more attention...

@bsmall2 In Latin America the biggest two problems are drug cartels and CIA both really intertwined and pollute all the politic and economic interests in the area, USA never been interested in democratic development, thinks of it as their back garden where they can get everything they want so they give economic and political support to the worst people they find if they are going to become allies or helpful for USA corporation.
@ghostdancer it's a busy 3 day weekend over here so.i can't reply that well.. But Noam.Chmsky's _Deterring Democracy_ and _Turning The Tide_ helped me start getting a better grip on why things are bad for people in the Gringo "back yard"... any sort of misery will be foisted on people.promote a "business-friendly climate"...
