We took for granted that at least our tech bubble would understand what the Google Decree means for Android, #FLOSS and freedom. Unfortunately we never saw the uproar we were expecting and people just shrugged it off taking for granted that "nothing changes".

@marcprux great #FDroid post brought the issue into the light, waking up developers, users, media and (we hope) concerned authorities to the immense danger the newly proposed gatekeeping controls Google wants to add.

@fdroidorg @marcprux Part of the problem is that I think I don't know what to even do. I can contact my MP - but I doubt it will do much. How do we make a more public scream?

You need a credible open alternative to Google Android.

@iceflowerx @fdroidorg @marcprux I've used various PostmarketOS forks and they're pretty ok. I've used Ubuntu touch and they're fine. I currently use LineageOS which works great! I've heard good things about KaiOS, CalyxOS, and GrapheneOS.

But that's all kinda next to the question of how do we prevent google from destroying (and being allowed to destroy) the most open of the popular Linux Phone OSes. It's really bad because, of course, Google *bought* android and is now trying to control forks of it - despite everything. Even if we do have an alternate android they can still destroy that! (See also the way they made DNS contain default tracking everywhere)

@silverwizard @fdroidorg @marcprux

How exactly can they destroy it? My thoughts are create an alternative OS on open hardware and fragment the android ecosystem entirely. Everyone can buy the cheapest crap phones that exist to be able to use the SMS, people might need to abandon the 5G networks which threaten digital sovereignty, and simply building an alternative ecosystem that protects digital sovereignty.

You could even choose to live a double life by minimally engaging with 5G ecosystem
