When it came time to renew the registration for my vehicle, I decided to throw some extra change at the process and get a personalized license plate for the car.
Enter, STRM CH
Those that follow along should know what “STRM CH” stands for, but if you’re new to the page and it’s not obvious, it’s an abbreviated take on “STORM CHASER”.
ADOT MVD allows us only seven characters, so I tried several variations like STRMCHR, STRMCHS, STORMCH, with the latter looking too much like STOMACH to me and it wasn’t available, so STRM CH it is. Though you can’t tell, it’s a “1/2 space” between M and C, which is something that MVD allows here in the The Grand Canyon State.
Speaking of which, the font used on the slogan was updated a year or two ago.
Arizona requires only one license plate on the vehicle. I’m waiting for a little twister sticker to arrive so I can affix that to the back window.
I have to admit, I’m enjoying driving around with the new plate in place. It helps explain the remaining hail dents I have in the trim around the windows from when I ran into that hail storm in Eldorado, Oklahoma back in May 2024.
Mother Nature looks to be shoving some typhoon moisture and instability in our direction for the next five days. Perhaps I’ll get to put this license plate to good use in these post-Monsoon times of 2025.
