Aerobars tailor made for Ultracycling - a proposal.

Recently learned that Swiss Side offers an Aero Cockpit solution since July.

An interesting modular solution. Certainly interesting for Triathletes, maybe less so for ultracycling.

Bit pricey (even with the current discount) and a bit heavy, both aspects considering it comes without risers, mounts and brackets.

More in the following posts (or readily available in my Story-Screenshots and respective ALT texts).

But the most critical point for me though: the grip area and angle is fixed.

You can make it as modular as you like in the pads and overall angles - if the grips /wrist angles don’t feel good for you that’s all moot.

Reading their development approach makes me wish someone would make a similar approach but aimed at ultracycling and gravel racing.

I.e. adaptable to a variety of handlebars, sufficient rise, mounting provisions for medium to big sized gps units (also quick swapable for supermarket stops), for smartphones and lights as well as aero-packs (maybe even providing special integrated ones in the same sense as there are a few hydration solutions for Triathlon).

BTW, @ridededa has pretty similar ones.
But crucially,
- as the whole package, i.e. also with brackets and co
- with exchangeable grip portions (but only for different shifters, not in angle and shape if I understand correctly)
- a bit more affordable

But man - if you mount this on your bars you make your bike a whole 920 g heavier. Considering you will also hang bags below those you won’t benefit from any potentially improved aerodynamics of the extensions themselves anyways.

That considered, a typical conventional aerobar setup like e.g. by @Profile_Design (total system weight around 560 g) is still the most sensible and most versatile way to go.

Once you’re ready with all the bells and whistles added, like e.g.
- 2 bridges
- a Peak Design Universal Phone Mount (83 g)
- a 3d-Print-GoPro Lightmount
- a k-edge TT Computermount
- Leaf Blipholder
- Sram Blips
- a bit of super thin and lightweigth textile wrap
you arrive also at 950 g

Well spent weight, but man I wish I could shave the half of it but staying at the same functional level…
