Google finally pushed me out of Android

I've been considering a Linux cellphone for a long time, and Google's latest shenanigans finally decided me. I have a new phone on order that I wil…

Which phone did you end up going with?

Fairphone 5.

Regardless of the OS, I only buy Fairphones anyway. Luckily, Fairphones offer very good support for alternative OSes.

Awesome, and they seem to have a good reputation. Hope everything works out ok, post some insights if you get the chance!

Nice. I just bought a Fairphone 6 for the same reason. I’d love Ubuntu Touch, but I need dual-SIM. I guess /e/OS will do for now.

I should have noticed when Google removed “don’t be evil”, but I guess better late than never. Watching them remove an ICE tracking app from the play store just removed the last bit of doubt.

Wasn’t the ICEblock app Apple only, or was their an Android version of the app as well?
Google removes ICE-spotting app following Apple’s ICEBlock crackdown

Google has removed Red Dot, an app people could use to report ICE sightings from Google Play, one day after Apple removed similar apps, including Red Dot and ICEBlock.

The Verge
Not only did they remove it, they called ICE a vulnerable group in their decision to do so…
Ive been tempted to try Ubuntu Touch aswwell, but cant get my damn phone to recognise my laptop and vice versa. doesn’t matter which port or cable! FYI - ubuntu touch doesnt have encryption yet, so if it gets stolen everything will be available for the thief.
UT has encryption now on 24.04.
holy shit, thats a game changer then
Their last update smoothed out quite a few things.
Canada is hungry for alternatives.
Absolutely, lets count our lucky stars for arch and graphene!
ArchLinux? What are you taking about you sweetest dog?
Looking forward to your 6 month review. 🙏
Yeah, same… mostly. I was already on my way from CalyxOS to Mobian, but Google just made sure I started working quicker. I even put more effort into mainling the Xperia 10 III than I’d otherwise have done.
