UK Hive Mind:
We are looking to replace our sagging living room soft furniture - settee and reclining chair.
Any recommendations for both where to look and, perhaps more importantly, where to avoid?

Boosts welcome.
UK advice only please!

@MikeFromLFE Cheap places like BHF and upcyclers. Aldiss's prices have gone to silly levels, IKEA quality has decreased. My two pence.
@book Thanks.
You echo my feelings about Ikea.
@MikeFromLFE Emmaus too. They seem to know what they're doing.

@MikeFromLFE I've been happy with the sofas I've had from Sofa Sofa. They're based in south Wales and make them onsite.

@MikeFromLFE If you want to do this without it breaking the bank, it might be worth looking in some charity shops. Some of them specialise in furniture, and what they have is often of surprisingly good quality. We have a couple of charity shop sofas.

If you're looking for smart new stuff I'm afraid I don't have any recommendations, but let me know if you get some good ones as I may be looking for new sofas to replace the charity shop ones at some stage in the next couple of years.

@MikeFromLFE If there's one in your area, British Heart Foundation furniture stores are pretty excellent. I've had some really nice stuff for a fraction of the cost of new, with no discernible wear. Most will deliver too, free if you're local enough, or for a very small fee outside of that.

Styles are usually not brand new, for obvious reasons, but if you're after comfort more than style, it's a good solution.

@MikeFromLFE Our sofa was a bargain from a British Heart Foundation shop.
Two armchairs came from M&S, mainly because we like a high back and that seems to be quite rare at the moment.

(We also didn't want recliners, which are also quite hard to avoid!).

@MikeFromLFE there's a leather sofa (possibly cream coloured), partly in a hedge, over the road from us. I'd put this on your 'where to avoid' list 😆
@MikeFromLFE I got a MultiYork sofa before they went into administration (pre Covid). It's very well made and will hopefully last years. Maybe see if there's anything made by them on eBay?
@MikeFromLFE I bought a brand new sofa last year for the first time ever at the ripe old age of 53 😄 There's an anecdote but I'll spare you. Unintentionally I bought from DFS and like another poster have 0% finance. We've been really happy with the sofa. Only problem is I spend too long on it and gave myself hip issues 😄 Agree there are great bargains to be had at charity furniture outlets.
