@DarkOptimism you've read Tainters book? I see it at the used bookstore and if it's still there by Saturday I'm getting it. I might watch the live stream for his talk, while I'm at work.

@venisewurith I have, it was a significant milestone in my journey.

If I remember rightly you can skip all the archaelogical detail in the chapters if desired. It worked well for me to read the chapter summaries/conclusions, and then wade into the chapters when I wanted to fully understand all the evidence behind them.
