Sussan Ley has a choice to make. If there is anything left of the LNP coalition worth saving from political oblivion, she can either accommodate and weaken her position within the current broad church. Or, she can attempt to rejuvenate the Liberal Party by ditching the Nats and purging the remnants of the #trumpists from its membership whether she has the poilitcal capital to do this or not..

In any case, Ley's problem is to live on as a weak leader precariously holding toghether a bunch of squabling kids affected by a delusional sense of what Australia needs, or be remebered for a leader willing to bet the house on reforming the Liberal Party to its original progressive ideals.

In either case, her days as a party leader are numbered, and it's a small number at that.

@RaymondPierreL3 the only way out i can see is for the coalition to split into a One Nation type party, and a Teal like party.
Might take them a generation to recover regardless imao

@InsurgoFormica
Yes, that was also my thinking when tooting. Thinking some more, it’s unlikely that liberals-at-heart Teals will ever go away. After all, they represent a decent portion of the electorate. So, in a way, the Liberal-heart is still pumping, just not within the LNP Coalition. It remains for those ‘liberals’ still in that coalition to move away from the swamp they’re wading in and join those already out of the LNP morass. That could happen sooner under another party label IMO.

More thinking… in fact, we need a viable ‘liberal’ come ‘Teals’ participation in Australian politics, now more than ever if we are to see a Labor go back to its centre-left natural position and a rectification of the Overton Window back towards what I would consider the ‘centre’ of our political landscape. It might exacerbate the ‘duopoly’ nature of Australian politics, but idgaf because it represents the electorate better than our current crop of parliamentarians. Also IMHO.

@RaymondPierreL3 exactly what I've been saying. I'd see myself in that "Liberal" party more than any other. It would be nice to be represented again.
@RaymondPierreL3 yep, that was exactly my thought too
