Artificial SweetenerIt's not as clear cut as that. Honestly, big AI companies would prefer for you to blame individual people for their small discretionary electricity usage which is what you're doing now. The reality is that generating images is comparable to playing video games for the amount of power it uses over the same period of time.
There's no doubt that AI datacenters are putting a strain on power grids in places but it's not being driven by Scream meme pic generation per-se. It's more a problem with iterative and parallel model training. Everyone is racing to try and do something innovative with the technology. It's also easy to see where reflexively including AI even in places it doesn't belong, like in search results, is also raising overall demand for power.
