I like DXO Photolab a lot more than Lightroom. However, if you keep it up to date, you're buying an upgrade every year and it doesn't really work out much cheaper than an Adobe subscription.
As a Canon user, I quite like Canon's own software - Digital Photo Professional. It's free... or rather 'included in the price of the camera'! It doesn't have all the 'bells & whistles' but it does get the most out of Canon lenses and it is the best for getting the correct colours from Canon cameras.

Always great if the free software with your camera can do the job. My point about upgrades though is that DxO doesn't need to be upgraded, when of you buy new lenses or cameras. You can stop upgrading all the time, and that's a nice thing :)
@ewenbell Agreed. To date, I've been adopting every other upgrade - I originally got version 4 and I've upgraded to versions 6 and 8.
