You're Being Very Inappropriate When You Call a Fascist a Nazi - Lemmy.World

I believe that this counts as an Unpopular Opinion. I believe that it is no more political than the Charlie Kirk post that’s up. I personally don’t hold this Unpopular Opinion, commented to that effect, and had my opinion removed by the Moderators for the following reason: >• misinformation. It’s spelld “fascist”, not “nazi” So maybe this is the Moderator’s Unpopular Opinion?

Fascist and Nazi have become generic slurs hurled at political opponents people don’t like.

Charlie Kirk was neither a fascist akin to the Italian fascists. Hitlerian national socialism is also distinct from Italian fascism, and Charlie Kirk was not an adherent of that ideology either.

Charlie Kirk was a reactionary evangelical Trumpist.

Kirk advocated for a christian autocracy which can only be described as facism
Or more specifically as christian autocracy.

Or more specifically as christian autocracy.

Translation: We haven’t secured supreme victory yet, so we have to cool it on the Nazi branding for now.

Not really if anything the Nazi label has lost all meaning which is the point Alex Jones of all people made a few years ago. If you call everything you don’t like a nazi, then nazi loses all value as a label as someone else pointed out. Christian nationalism is one thing, nazism is another and calling them the same thing has only achieved that now the average person rolls their eyes when you call a right winger a nazi.

You are not wrong. Using the word to often in the wrong context waters it down.

But the context only incentivizes to use that word.

This was in the context of Charlie Kirk, not MAGA as a whole. And I do not think that what Charlie Kirk proselytized was fascism, you could call it reactionary or regressivism but not fascism per se. Fascism has too much of a focus on military action which I do not think Charlie endorsed that strongly except in his support of Israel which he was shifting on before he was killed. It’s not that what he preached was better, but it was a different kind of bad.
