And the politicians pinky swore that they would never use it against real Americans, even if the law was written to allow that.
And when they started to murder Americans abroad via drones, without a trial, Obama said he'd fix that. Fix he did it, by following all the necessary legal procedures to make it kind of legal. Always take what a lawyer says in its worst case interpretation, @Strandjunker
and he did not promise to stop killing Americans abroad without a trial.
Only that "illegal killing" would stop.
He fulfilled that promised perfectly, even if many misunderstood his promise.
As I joke, parsing everything that leaves the mouth of a lawyer in the worst case interpretation is not the worst idea.
Anyway, there is a reason why the laws that grant the state powers should be as specific as possible.
