With Dialup going away, I can't help but bring this sound back to remind us of what used to connect us. To the younger generation, if you've not experienced dialup, I'm sure it will come back as some fad or other one day.
@hallen I remember that dial-up noise very well, and I also remember having to use the computer offline if I was on my own in the house in our dial-up days, so that I would be able to answer the landline phone if necessary.
@frog67 I was so happy when I got my first Cel phone as it meant I could use the phone and the net at the same time.
@hallen We didn't use our mobile phones much in this house back then, so I was glad when we were able to use the Internet and the landline at the same time. Nowadays we don't use the landline at all.
@hallen I have it set at the notification sound for server uptime notifications
@hallen So believe it or not, I actually have some second-hand experience with dial-up, I interned at a corthouse in Massachusetts, Waltham, and that's what they use to connect to the internet. I heard the sound on their office landline and couldn't believe it. I even asked my boss if that's what they use and she confirmed that yep, Dial-up is still a thing they use. It was pretty interesting.
@hallen ah, the sound of my childhood.
