Been plodding away at Wanikani very slowly. Finished level 3 and trying out the subscription for a bit. The cost feels kind of bad because I'm still not pushing _much_ new content (for me), but it's progress.

Education through osmosis has led to a very... spotty... knowledge of the language.

Still plodding away at this. Wanikani changed their UI, which makes things harder to read imo.
I swear I'm actually at the point where I'm learning things.
Been a while, still going. Still learning. Still level 5...
Getting back into it a few weeks after vacation. Starting to burn items now, finally.
More progress. I get how the radicals are useful, but... not really with how my brain works. I feel like I'm more brute force memorization than breaking down kanji into radicals/mnemonics... Glad to get them out of the SRS rotations now haha.
I guess maybe I should be documenting these also. 🤷
Didn't realize it had been so long since I'd followed up. A lot more progress with basic stuff burnt. It's still kind of a 50/50 mix of things I already know and things I don't.
@CrescensXG You remind me. I tried out the free plan of WaniKani, thought it was okay but not worth the price. A month later they had a 50% off for a full year plan (even monthly), so I took up on it and now have been working on it relatively consistently for 2 months now. Was going really fast but now with work hard to stay on top of it.

@slims Yep, one of the biggest problems I had with it initially was if I tried to brute force as MANY LESSONS AS I ALREADY KNEW, it meant that the reviews piled up way more than I was comfortable doing at a time/day. Like, I want to learn, but I'm not sitting down and doing 200+ reviews in a session.

Now that stuff has slowed down again I'm doing 5 lessons a day plus the relevant reviews; up 50 a day, usually about 30, and it's a lot more manageable. Is it slower? Sure. But it fits my schedule and mental capacity a lot better.

It's honestly already been helpful for me, reading nonsense shit like RocketNews haha. Beyond guessing at meanings based on the kanji I know, I"m also able to guess at readings and be right like 50% of the time!
