Austria’s military has switched from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice

Het kan dus wel he, @bert_hubert

"This move will substantially reduce Austria’s software bill. At $33.75 per user per month, a Microsoft 365 E3 subscription for 16,000 workstations costs approximately $6,480,000 per year, compared to LibreOffice’s zero cost.”

But despite all the cost savings, the main reason for the change was in fact for digital sovereignty and to gain control over critical data."

@eelcoa @bert_hubert @danie10 I mean, inb4 some guy from Microsoft pointing out that the cost can't really be zero exactly, but this is great. Hoping for a snowball effect.
@negative12dollarbill @bert_hubert @eelcoa yes it is also about who controls the access to data (is there a price on that) as well as where the money gets spent (locally with small business versus a global conglomerate who often does not pay its full dues for taxes).
