Corporations want you to think "red tape" is a bunch of arbitrary rules to frustrate business. But most of it is regulations that protect people. That make water, food, drugs and buildings safe. That protect you in your workplace and your children in their school. That make sure your home is safe, your car is safe, the plane you take is safe. That when you try to evacuate a burning building, there is a fire exit and it's not locked.
@beecycling in the Navy, we used red tags for marking things as out of commission. Occasionally an officer would think they knew better and turn things on and find out.

@beecycling Where do people think the tape gets its color from? Every regulation is written in blood.

Now just think for a moment about the kind of person who wants to do away with them. How the most *generous* reading is of a callous and uncaring individual.

@OchotonidKnight People who have the power to repeal those regulations are never going to work on a construction site, or in a factory, a mine, or a warehouse. The people who do work in those places and have any inclination to vote for politicians who'd take away those protections should take a look at conditions in those types of places in countries without those protections. Or just look at the stats for worker deaths in comparison to their home country. See if they want that back.
