@lillyfinch Although I certainly agree with the patriarchy blame thing, the two "turnings" don't seem parallel. Isn't feminism at its root the belief that women are equal and should be treated as such? Shouldn't most fair-minded people already think that, without needing to be pushed in that direction by far-right cavemen?

Maybe if it said "radical feminism" (whatever that is), or "the far left", or some term for general anti-male sentiment, it would ring more true to me.

@akkana @akkana @akkana @akkana well in my 73 years of experience….because of patriarchy, women have not been equal. Feminism is about equality and the patriarchy made it a dirty word. I get where you are going but I think feminism is the correct word. The only correction I would make is “The patriarchy says” because sane people get the concept of equality for all.
@lillyfinch @akkana
I strongly believe in equal rights/opportunities for men and women and qualify to be called a feminist. Yet, I don't use the word. If it means equal rights/opportunities for men and women, then masculismn should mean the same, but that obviously does not work. Neither of the two words is neutral. I know this is only a battle of words and likely a lost one, just want to mention it. It would not surprise me if some men are simply put off by the word, but not the meaning.
@jakobtougaard @lillyfinch You're right that the word "feminist" has a lot of negative connotations. I went to a college where it meant that only women's opinions mattered, all men are rapists so they should just shut up and listen. For a long time I didn't consider myself a feminist. Years later, a mentor said "of course I'm a feminist, I believe in women's equality", and I thought, "what a totally reasonable attitude!" and got over my distaste for the word. But I do get why it bothers people.

@lillyfinch @akkana I'm gonna do the phrasing pedantry thing, but I swear it's with a purpose. Also you said your age so I'll share I'm in my 30s.

It's not sanity / mental health or mental illness that determines perspective on human "worth". It's willingness to excuse cruelty, or inability to fight cruelty, or something(s) similar.

I only mention cuz someone asked me about some phrasing I used for an off-taste joke once and I really appreciated it. (Not that you have to here, just explaining my reasoning.)

... yes, I'm very autistic and tired of the internet.

@akkana @lillyfinch
Why are you trying to make it ring true to you?

It's propaganda intended to make feminism look bad in the eyes of men, as well as the women who support the patriarchy. Because the thought of equality is exactly what the ruling class hate.

Even if they sometimes say radical feminism, that's based on equality being a radical shift aeay from the world they want.
