@KlausGerdGiesen hi! i have a similar trip in mind. were you satisfied by the east/north path you took? i have 2 options, either going west/south and then cross the country after rome, or going east/north like you did. but i'm a bit scared by the north route. cycle lanes seems to be more developped on the west coast.

have you encountered unsecured situations? thanks a lot

@yanndegat Crossing Italy from west to east (or vice versa) was not an option, as it is too mountainous. We went East-South. Overall, the route was very safe, especially from Domodossola in the Alps down to Milano downtown, and the last few stages along the Adriatic coast: both with lots of bike paths. The exceptions: entering Ancona from the north, and a series of bridges and major road sections for which there was no alternative.
