In 2016, after Trump had announced his candidacy, David Fahrenthold of the Washington Post decided to investigate Trump’s “charity,” the Trump Foundation, and immediately discovered that the whole thing was a giant fraud.

Trump had spent years soliciting donations from people, promising to donate that money to actual charities, and then spending that money on whatever he wanted instead. The lawsuit that eventually dissolved the foundation and banned Trump and his kids from running a charity in New York State called it “a shocking pattern of illegality.”

I want to emphasize that Fahrenthold undertook the most cursory of investigations and immediately discovered that the Trump Foundation was a giant grift, theft on the scale of tens of millions of dollars, out in the open for decades.

No one went to prison for these crimes.

I’m old enough to remember that George Floyd was summarily executed by asphyxiation for suspicion of using a counterfeit $20 bill at a convenience store, and that Eric Garner was summarily executed by asphyxiation for suspicion of selling loose cigarettes, and that Tamir Rice was summarily executed by shooting for possessing a toy gun, and that Dillon Taylor was summarily executed by shooting for wearing headphones, and…

The US has never had equality before the law. If you’re upset about the politicized prosecution of James Comey, a wealthy, famous, and politically-connected white man as the end of rule of law in the US, I am happy to report that you needn’t worry—things were already fucked.

If you’re not thinking about tearing down that whole system, you’re not seriously thinking about how to defend yourself against fascism.

I was watching the live stream at the time they were killing Floyd. I saw the event along with whomever else happened to be on that feed.

I saw the other cops and what they did.

I watched him no longer move.
This didnt happen in a vacuum. There were many eye witnesses.

Probably not, but that was old news by 2024. For their many faults, I don’t really think Biden or Harris would have done anything wrong by not mentioning that in 2024, since Trump had committed many more egregious crimes by that point (including the failed coup attempt that Biden mostly papered over).
