something beautiful and slightly conflicted / melancholy for tonight:

about 7 minutes of grimethorpe colliery band playing the third movement, "the flavour of tears", from "mysteries of the horizon" by nigel clarke.
the cornet solo is played by harmen vanhoorne.

ALT text:
Very wavy and floaty, kind of processional brass band piece. Mutes are used. Lyrical cornet solo melody hovering over a very quiet band. Glockenspiel. Sounds a bit like it might be music from a 2000s French film.
The piece keeps undulating back and forth, I think that's also because it plays with counter parallel chords. Gentle key modulation. A few short, passionate outbreaks with semitone steps, but the music eventually returns to its round and lyrical character.

The mostly beige album cover shows a painting of a barren, snowy landscape with factory buildings and chimneys in the background.
