More than 1.6m sign petition opposing Starmer’s plan for digital ID cards
How does a homeless person without a smartphone get a job? Is the government going to supply smartphones to everyone?
Or anyone who simply doesn’t want a smartphone. How do they get a job? Are you now forced to use a smartphone if you want to be a UK citizen?
The government has said it wants to ensure the scheme works for those who are not able to use a smartphone and will launch a consultation on how the service will be delivered later this year.
The new digital ID will be held on people’s phones, in a similar way to contactless payment cards or the NHS app.

Yeah, they have no clue what they’re doing. Maybe do the consultations and research before announcing your plan?
Unfortunately the main negative of this,
Is while smartphones make it easy to display. The data will be with the government. So not having a smart phone is easy to get around. Companies will likely be able to access the database and see your data.
UK unemployed having to pay for new gov ID to get a job. Is the real fucker.
Make it a legal requirement when opening a new social media account, to provide a verified form of ID. Where the account belongs to a person under the age of 18 verify the account with the ID of a parent/guardian, to prevent anonymised harmful activity, providing traceability if an offence occurs.
It’s 2.26M now.
Which, assuming it’s all valid UK citizens signing, is approaching 5% of the adults registered to vote (48M), and not far off 8% of those that voted last year (29M). It’s all people who are politically active enough to sign a petition after all.
How can they think it’s a winning move?
How can they think it’s a winning move?
Didn’t the brexit one get something like 5 million votes?
Brexit… Winning…
Do you see my problem with your observation?
The petition is titled “Do not introduce Digital ID cards”
Sounds like a demand to me.
