Here the concept behind my work Ancestral Hues - From Life Lines to Colour Arrays currently exhibited in Transformations at the Museu de la Pell in Igualada, Spain.

This work deals with one theme, life, and with ten of its infinite possible variations: the lives of my forefathers, visualised here as colour arrays.

I started by collecting the birth and death dates of my forefathers and found them for ten generations. I then gathered yarn in 100 colours and assigned each shade a number between 00 and 99.

The colour arrays are a combination of the collected data and the assigned numbers: Each year lived by the forefathers in their respective centuries is represented by the shade with the same number.

The number of stitches per colour is invariable, while the number of colours depends on the length of each life. The longer the life, the greater the colour diversity and the larger the stitched area.

Each past life can be transformed into a colour array, but no one alive can know what theirs will be.

What a delightful way to present your lifelines. Pretty amazing you were able to obtain that data.

Just in case, I want to let you know I was not able to read your response, because I got an error message for https://pixelfed.art/i/web/post/876832677749842445 😕
