Imagine if all the techbros stopped designing dark patterns and force-feeding us AI and started designing technology that makes the world a little better. Like this cognitive-assistance clock at the DokkX welfare technology lab in Aarhus. Brain fog, temporary illness, long-term disability, dementia – how useful to have a clock that clearly tells you what day of the week it is and whether it’s morning, afternoon, evening or night.
@CiaraNi I wanted that clock until I looked up how much it costs (over €800)
@xgebi Yikes! I hope cheaper models exist. Or that they are available free or heavily subsidised from the council to those who need them most, same as other assistive tools like handrails, crutches, ramps, home help, mobility scooters etc. (I realise that this will vary by country)
@CiaraNi @xgebi I bought one for my partner as her dementia got worse. It was less than 25 GBP. Probably a cheap knock off, but it works fine
@mikelittle @xgebi Sorry to hear that she needed one, but lovely to hear that there was affordable technology that could help. I have great admiration for the unsung people who conceive of and create these 'little' things that make a big and real difference.
