look at this comm i got from cervelet
(for the record i asked for a steam deck but i wasn't gonna make them fix that djhfg)
@pebble steam deck with a custom shell

@pebble excellent, beautiful, fantastic, no tipey ๐Ÿฅบ
@pebble Just need a bit of that Strong Bad flair
@BatElite djkfhg omg that's adorable
(thank you!! <3)
@pebble gotta get pebble a fight stick! great for hooves!
@Voidhorn that's a fun idea! :3
@pebble hoof keyboards really are a serious question in furgonomics.
@foone someone should really figure it out
@pebble heck, that's adorable. I do find myself wondering if something like a morse key (or two buttons used as a paddle) would be more convenient for keyboards with hooves. I've known hams that could do 40 wpm morse while holding a separate conversation, so I think it could work...
@balloonpup yess! currently my canon is that pebble uses two of these to type in like morse or something similar https://shop.8bitdo.com/products/8bitdo-keyboard-extensions
8BitDo Keyboard Extensions - Super Buttons, Super ABXY, Super Stick

@pebble I have one set of those that came with my keyboard and they do have a wonderful feel for that sort of thing. I love it! As someone who tends to prefer having rounded plushlike paws or hooves, it may be an idea I have to borrow, if you don't mind
@balloonpup oh that's fun !! i really like the look of their keyboards

and yea absolutely go ahead <3 always fun to see this kinda stuff explored
@pebble eeee, thanks. I do really enjoy my keyboard (I've got one with the two buttons and a separate 10-key/calculator that matches)... nice to type on. Going to hunt for some extra buttons though - I didn't even know they sold extras in different colors until you linked that hehe
@pebble @balloonpup MLP already had something like this with binary typewriters. I figure with more buttons you could do chording like a stenotype though!
@beeps @pebble I've used a chording keyboard once or twice... yeah, you probably could make it work fairly well with 4-5 buttons. Though just the two may be more ergonomically comfy over time, I suppose. Hmmm
@balloonpup @pebble Maybe with more tactile/clicky keys you could learn to chord based on the level of pressure being applied as well? Interesting thing to ponder!
@beeps @balloonpup very good ideas โ€‹โ€‹
@beeps @balloonpup it's honestly nice to see that they actually came up with an alternative to something for hooved critters instead of just the usual "don't worry about how they're doing that with hooves"
@pebble @balloonpup @beeps have you heard of the orbitouch? would be a perfect keyboard for hooves or paws
-F
@Hearth @pebble @beeps I've attempted to use one in the past! You're right, it would - don't know why I hadn't thought of it, too!
@balloonpup @pebble @beeps by sheer coincidence, we'd only just learned about them about an hour prior to that post!
-F
@Hearth @balloonpup @beeps oh!! i looked into that and that seems perfect for this use case! way better than just having to make do with two buttons, i think this will be my new canon for how pebble types
@pebble @beeps @Hearth ooooh, such fun! It's really fun watching the motions of someone using one of those well.
@pebble clearly we have to bring the steam daisy wheel keyboard back
@Moot jdkhfg why have i never seen this before
@pebble it got discontinued years ago, it was only a thing when big picture was a new thing on steam. No idea why they didnโ€™t keep it because it is so much better than qwerty on screen
@Moot if i had to guess people weren't too keen on learning a new typing method, even if it'd work better with a controller than just having u navigate through a qwerty keyboard one key at a time :v it seems like it'd work well if u spent some time learning it honestly
@pebble I got used to it in like, 5 minutes? between this and the ps3s t9 keyboard everything else anyone has tried for input has been ass
@Moot i like the split touchpad typing on the steam deck a lot but that's not really a fair comparison since it wouldn't really work with regular controllers
