Okay so this was a hostile takeover. The Ruby community needs to get their house in order.

And one more note, I assume it is implied in the write up, but you might now know: DHH is on the board of directors of Shopify. He exerts tremendous organisational and financial power.

It’s hilarious he’s threatened by three devs with a hobby project and is willing to burn his community’s reputation over it.

After listening to about a dozen first-hand accounts, I’ve published what I know so far about the RubyGems takeover. https://joel.drapper.me/p/rubygems-takeover/

@janl I think there’s been some bad blood between some of the Rails Core team and what was Ruby Together (Rubygems maintainers prior to being brought into the Ruby Central fold)… so I wonder if André now being forced out is related to that? i.e. pretty grudge bullshit rather than the new hobby project.

And FWIW from my own interactions with him, André is a Good Human.

@pat @janl Yes. I totally don't understand why rv should be a threat to RC. It's just a tool. It would work with the rubygems.org index as well, right? I am happy for all tooling that tries to make Ruby install and gems management easier, because this is still a major PITA if we are honest.
