We have a tradition in my community of making a quilt (or really a play mat) for new babies. We set a theme and people make a square (none of us real quilters) and we set a day to sew up together with tramming between squares, some wadding and backing. The theme for this one was "Bees, beetles, and butterflies" and this is my just finished square - a Christmas beetle, which used to be a very common part of every childhood, now sadly much more rare. I'm quite pleased how it turned out.
