Out on a walk this afternoon I saw a hawk perched in a tree in my neighborhood in a wooded area at the end of the street. I think it was a red-shouldered hawk. Looked magnificent flying above the road and gave me a good view of its distinct striped tail.
This morning there were murders of crows in every tree as I walked down the street. They were all cawing at each other, or at the morning, or at the universe in general.
@jaeger just think: someday I’ll have a universal translator and your smart glasses will show you subtitles of what they’re saying
@yanthor Caw! Caw! Caw-caw! Caw!

@jaeger You may be joking, but we’ve proved that crows have self awareness and pass concepts from generation to generation. They may not be talking about super sophisticated topics, but it is way more complex than seagulls. 😉

@jaeger

“He spent a lot of time flying. He learnt to communicate with birds and discovered that their conversation was fantastically boring. It was all to do with wind speed, wing spans, power-to-weight ratios and a fair bit about berries. Unfortunately, he discovered, once you have learnt birdspeak you quickly come to realize that the air is full of it the whole time, just inane bird chatter. There is no getting away from it.”

—Douglas Adams

@jaeger but then again, humans mostly talk about inane stuff too. 😂
