so if you're wondering how the internal collapse of the Israeli state is going, earlier this week Prime Minister Netanyahu said in an address to the nation that Israel is about to become so globally isolated that the people should get used to being, and i quote, "super-Sparta", and today it was revealed that Minister for Social Equality and Women's Empowerment May Golan, suspected of corruption, broke into a police station and snuck her mother out mid-interrogation.
@Yuvalne it reads into this that they are planning something even more horrible than so far. it must have missed the part of history where Sparta was supported by the world's most powerful empire though. cause clearly Israel cannot survive without the US at this point.
@elexia well the thing is that's both true and not true.
like this speech correctly demonstates that the fact the Israeli economy didn't collapse is entirely thanks to western support. and i still maintain that short of a military intervention, hard economic pressure is the best way to stop the genocide.
but it also demonstrates something i feared might happen more than a year ago, which is that Netanyahu will go on even as Israel collapses around him.
@elexia i don't know exactly when i said it, but i remember very distinctly saying in early 2024 that if Biden says "stop the war tonight or all funding is cut tommorow" i give a 50-50 chance that Netanyahu actually stops.
i now believe that if the US and Europe say "stop the war tonight or all trade and travel stops tomorrow" there's a 50-50 chance Netanyahu stops. which is a really concerning development.
@elexia immediate maximalist economic pressure is still, to me, the correct next move. it's just that the west took so long there's a chance it might no longer be effective, and that really worries me.
