if you're wondering why the sudden influx of users,
@jonny ✨decentralization✨
@glyph @jonny So if I understand correctly the promise Bluesky offers around resistance to enshittification, this would be the moment where we can switch to an instance operated by someone with decent ethics while keeping our followers, followees and tweet history right ?

@jonny @ewjoachim there is still a lot to be desired here but the promise *is* starting to manifest at the edges, and it's nice to see there's a practical deployment of this now. (Sort of. My understanding is that while this gets you off of *a lot* of bluesky infrastructure, your feet are still pretty well nailed to the floor by the ultimate did:plc: resolution service)
@glyph @jonny @ewjoachim sigh don't get us started on did:plc. it was the thing we flagged in our write-up like four years ago and... sigh

@ireneista @glyph @jonny @ewjoachim not only the did:plc stuff, although that's obviously an issue. It's not quite decentralised yet, dk if it'll be even as decentralised as mastodon, although technically it could be more judging by their content hash and signature based protocol. Anyway, here are afew links about this stuff. First, a quite recent fedi thread:
https://mastodon.social/@mcc/115204933163360398
Then, stuff like this:

There could be good things coming out of this, but I wouldn't really hold my breath. Tbh, I wish the fedi would become better, both from a software and social point of view, aka the racism problems and much more, so we wouldn't have to keep hopping from incompatible protocol to crypto or billionaire owned incompatible protocol forever, thinking that for sure, it'll be better this time round.

Psst, can you get me an invite code? Everyone wants to be part of the Next Big Thing that's just like the last one. That may not bode well.

@esoteric_programmer @glyph @jonny @ewjoachim yes, mcc's investigations in particular have been quite useful to us
