Dancli@DemocracyMattersALot in Spain we have a close equivalent: "¡pero Franco construyó pantanos!", which means "but Franco built reservoirs!". Francoist would often use this phrase when someone talked dirty about their beloved tyrant, but now it's more like a meme we use to mock them.
Flame@Dancli @DemocracyMattersALot That unfortunately reminded me of a situation I was in. When I was younger I was delivering newspapers and I talked to an older guy, who out of nowhere just said almost verbatim "Not everything under Hitler was bad. At least we had butter.". That stuck with me because it seems like for some it doesn't matter how cruel and brutal a government is, as long as they got theirs and that's honestly terrifying for me.
