@DemocracyMattersALot in Spain we have a close equivalent: "¡pero Franco construyó pantanos!", which means "but Franco built reservoirs!". Francoist would often use this phrase when someone talked dirty about their beloved tyrant, but now it's more like a meme we use to mock them.
