Quote from Torah study: “You don’t need to raise hands. We’re Jewish. Talk over each other.”
@hauntedhideaway sounds like my dad, if he were actually observant
@vikxin we’d get along. I have five sibs. I’ve been training for this.
@hauntedhideaway oh no I meant talking over people, not pointing it out. He's uhh quite disrespectful in ways I wish he weren't
@vikxin I learned how to talk over people at a very young age 😂
@hauntedhideaway I was scolded for doing it. Now I have social anxiety
@hauntedhideaway Talk over each other?
What does it mean?

@Tengu

Jewish communication often involves speaking at the same time the other person is speaking.

Linguists call this "Cooperative overlapping"

This is in contrast to one person speaking at a time.

Interrupters: Linguist says it's the Jewish way

@hauntedhideaway @serge no, this sounds more European. I recall being in Italy with my family, and all 5 or 6 of my Aunts would talk at once loudly and no one listened!
@serge @jeff I’m one of five. My mom is one of four. Italian. The talking over each other has reached epic proportions.
@JaneinNJ @PamelaBarroway I’ve never known in my entire life when to talk in a conversation that wasn’t occur people. I’m terrible one-on-one. But give me a table with 15 people at ur and I’m good.
