I'd also like to an alternative, and that's installing Piefed as a PWA by creating a shortcut to your phone's homescreen or installing as an app on desktop, at which point it will run like an app.

It works quiet well and has become my primary way of using it. People tend to sleep on PWAs, but they're great. :D
