Thanks, AI.

A number of iconic ZX screens (both from the 1980s and recent, like Add Mortem) animated by AI. Not sure how I feel about that. Eye candy for sure, but also if you eat too many candies you get diabetes. Takes something away from native ZX demos IMO, but an interesting experience nevertheless.

TOP-100 ZX Spectrum Arts You've Never Seen... ALIVE!

@rcl

I think it's awesome!

I don't see "AI" taking anything away from this, if anything, there's countless human hours invested in producing this video, and those hours have been amplified with sophisticated tooling.

Clearly, no general-purpose AI can get anything comparable done.

@haitchfive I don't object to the technology itself :) The 'taking away' part is in that it is hard to come anywhere close to these visuals in a demo written for the platform itself (and even for a more powerful ZX Spectrum Next). So this diminishes the wow factor (or what's left ot it) for the native, realtime demos...

Philosophically, perhaps demomaking as a whole has been undercut like this ever since videos became ubiquitous. Realtime aspect only matters when it is interactive I guess.

@rcl I just don't think that's "AI" at all. It's an argument about something that's not there.
@haitchfive I am not blaming AI per se, not even in my original post. It's just the video leaves on me a weird impression of going too far and devaluing the fascination. Maybe something local to me - internally I perhaps cannot help but compare it to demos, which still impress me with not just visuals but also the tech that goes into them, whereas for other people it mat be different and they may just care about the visual end result, no matter how it was produced.

@rcl I may be wrong but I thought that saying "Thanks AI" and "made by AI" kind warranted the commentary.

And it's not "made by AI", that's just a fact.

@haitchfive Hard to discuss nuances :)

@rcl

It's really not. It's perfectly possible to say something like: "I suspect this thing that turns me off has a component of AI somewhere in the process, but I can't truthfully assert where or how much".

Not the same punch.

@haitchfive Well, the AI is right there in the video title, so I am not sure why you are even exploring how exactly it was made - for all we know its creator credits AI first and foremost. What I mean by nuances is what exactly makes me not quite appreciate the video - it's not the use of AI per se.
@rcl Sorry for the confusion.
@haitchfive no worries
