@a1ba If USB-A and USB-C are any indicator, even if they DID standardize on one you'd still have problems where Bob's port supported ⅔ of the optional spec and Mary's support a different ⅔ and Tom couldn't afford the good jack so his only supports the non-optional parts, while Ted's a techbro with all the options supported who writes software for our cyberbrains & can't understand why "stupid users" keep complaining / having problems.

@a1ba Meanwhile your dad got the cheap cable on Amazon because it's "A usb-x cable" and can't understand why it doesn't work, and couldn't know that it's because the cable doesn't support OmniVid transfer protocol because it doesn't bother to mention that anywhere.

In another room his cat's busy chewing through the only cable in the house that would actually have worked.
