@CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic

MAGA shot one of our sitting congress members in Minnesota a month or two and just acted like it never happened. Their moral outrage about a lowlife like Kirk being killed is hollow.

They're already in the midst of carrying out their most violent, depraved fantasies, this recent death changes nothing that they weren't going to do already.

@contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic who on the right gloated about it? Name names, please. I need to know who on my side is an asshole like Cory Doctorow is.
@ech @contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic Are you fucking kidding? Was rushing to label the Minnesota shooter as a radical leftist and reveling in these mischaracterizations not close enough to gloating for you? How about the utter failure to issue mea culpas when the killer turned out to be a far right nut job? Some even pivoted to the "false flag" narrative. Rest assured, you can't throw a stone on your side of the aisle without hitting three bigger assholes than Cory Doctorow.
@bobo_buffington @contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic I asked for names. Not seeing any here, unfortunately. Not sure the point of this post.

@ech @contrasocial @CaffeinatedBookDragon @pluralistic

How many do you need?

Mike Lee

Elon Musk
Alex Jones

@bobo_buffington @ech it's kind of a false equivalence tho: Melissa Hortman hadn't done anything in her life to warrant the level of contempt being (correctly) voiced against Charlie Kirk today.

Charlie Kirk was a straight-up nazi. He was *openly* white-supremacist.

Nazi dead. Mourning is inappropriate at this time.

@bobo_buffington @ech and note that it's actually really easy to live your life in such a way that people *don't* talk about you like this after you die:

just don't be overtly racist.

show curiosity about & compassion for people from other cultures.

don't tell people that you think empathy is inherently wrong (which kirk did).

in short, don't be a psychopath (or seek professional treatment for your psychopathy).

@bobo_buffington @ech btw Erik, while you're here:
There was a time when right-wing people seemed to have *some* sense of morality. Here's an example:

You can find similar sentiments voiced by Bob Dole, George H.W. Bush, etc.
It's not like there was no racism among right-wingers back then, but at least that party did not identify nazis like Charlie Kirk as _speaking for_ the party. They didn't accept overtly racist lies as their ground truth. Bob Dole kicked racists out.

"We are one people committed to building a single nation of justice and opportunity."

@bobo_buffington @ech

Today's right-wingers have lost contact with reality, and they've lost their sense of compassion. And that's extremely dangerous.

And it is **even more dangerous** to treat a nazi like Kirk as a martyr, because that's going to inspire even more fascism.

So as a matter of *defense*, we need to make it clear that Kirk is not the kind of person who died with honor. He inspired terrorism. He was an enemy of the american people, and of the planet.
