Well you completely missed the point. If he'd painted it on one of the surrounding buildings it would have been covered with polycarbonate and protected for decades. Now it'll be forgotten in weeks. Anyway he destroyed enough of other artists work by overspraying it in the 90s, bit rich of him to complain if his gets destroyed.

Justin Derrick@herhandsmyhands It looks like they’ve permanently damaged the wall in trying to remove the art - if they power washed or sand-blasted the surface, it eroded the stone… or whatever chemical they used etched and discoloured the stone permanently.

@bazcook I believe that the building is listed--which means the walls cannot be painted; in fact, the reporting I saw a couple of days ago claimed the cops are actively looking to charge Banksy.
