He's bridged from Mastodon. It's possible he follows/is followed by more people over there. I don't think he's a troll. Just someone very wedded to his incorrect views and unable/unwilling to correct them when pointed to evidence in the contrary.
I appreciate your thoughtful responses to him. I learned something from them.
Well, unlike him, I don't see this as some sort of competition to the death where one protocol is inherently evil. I think both protocols have their places and are useful for different use cases. I wish that he weren't so quick to misrepresent reality, though.
I think the main problem we face isn't the *technology*, but the *current ecosystem*, and knowledge related to it. If you asked your average Bluesky user, "How could you get around the Mississippi ban?", they'd have no idea, whereas your average Mastodon user would know right away what to do.
It'd be really healthy if we could decluster away from such a large share of the network existing on systems run by Bluesky Social PBC.

Yes, this is exactly what I want to explain all the time.

And no, of course I don't see it as a competition of protocols or that any protocol is evil. As I have pointed out many times, in my view ideally all social networks would be open, decentralized and interoperable, without really caring what protocols or bridges they are using under the hood.
